Through positive psychology, research and powerful storytelling, she encourages people to pursue their potential while protecting their wellbeing.

How often do people achieve what they once dreamed of, only to discover that success has left them exhausted, disconnected or uncertain about what truly makes them happy? In a culture that celebrates achievement, the quieter questions about purpose, fulfilment and emotional wellbeing can easily be pushed aside.

Maya Madkour believes that ambition should help people build a meaningful life, rather than consume the very things that make life worth living. A psychologist, educator, author and international keynote speaker, she explores what drives human potential and how people can pursue their goals while protecting their wellbeing.

Her journey, shaped by an early desire to inspire others and a deep curiosity about human behaviour, has brought together positive psychology, entrepreneurship, academic research and storytelling. Through her books, teaching and speaking, Maya encourages people to challenge their self-doubt, discover what gives them purpose and take the first step towards the life they want to create.

A Childhood Determined by Family

As a psychologist, Maya believes that childhood plays a major role in shaping the adults people become. Those formative years, she explains, are instrumental and highly powerful. Fortunate to have had a wonderful childhood, she grew up as the youngest of her siblings, receiving a great deal of love from her incredible parents and kind, adoring siblings, to whom she owes everything.

Her parents and older brother remain her role models. They have worked hard and continue to do so, achieving what she describes as monumental success in every domain. Through their example, she developed a concrete understanding of what real work ethic looks like.

Her family gave her a strong foundation, but from a very young age, Maya also knew that she would lead an unconventional life. She felt that she was meant to etch her own path rather than follow the crowd, driven by a fire within her that she knew would remain alive.

Her desire to motivate and inspire people began early. From show-and-tell at school to tutoring refugee teenagers in the United States, she looked for opportunities to encourage others, even through the smallest interactions. Over time, these experiences helped her recognise that motivating and inspiring people was her true purpose, alongside her family and soul tribe.

She became increasingly convinced that everything people do creates a ripple effect and makes a tangible, measurable difference. For her, the important thing is to keep doing what brings happiness and creates an impact for as long as humanly possible.

Discovering Her Own Path Through Entrepreneurship

Maya describes the way her career has developed as a kind of destiny, a perfect orchestration through which life seamlessly weaves different experiences together. Her practical journey, however, has also involved experimentation, hard work and a willingness to keep searching for what truly makes her tick.

Entrepreneurship attracted her from a young age. The conventional nine-to-five model never made sense to her, prompting her to explore different business opportunities. These included selling used cars in Dallas with her sister and launching two digital marketing agencies.

Each experience became part of a continuing process of discovery. Maya believes that people must be willing to iterate, explore and keep refining their direction until they find work that genuinely interests them.

For her, this journey of self-discovery is indispensable. Her experiences across different professional fields gradually brought together her interests in human behaviour, communication, teaching and entrepreneurship, helping her develop a voice that could connect with people in different settings.

Finding Her Place on the Stage

Stepping onto international stages came naturally to Maya. She explains that she feels at home on stage and comes alive when speaking to an audience. Electrifying and captivating an audience is among her favourite feelings in the world.

Teaching brought a similar sense of belonging. When she began teaching at university level in September 2019, something immediately clicked. It felt as though she had always belonged in a lecture hall, with speaking and captivating an audience coming naturally to her.

As a keynote speaker, Maya focuses on understanding the people listening to her. She believes a speaker must be acutely aware of their audience’s pain points, what they care about, why they are present and what they hope to take away from the experience.

For her, an emotionally resonant message is always a home run. People recognise a genuine message that comes from the heart through the speaker’s tonality, body language and the pitch of their voice.

Her ultimate aim is to awaken the dormant forces within the people who see her speak and help them realise that they, too, can achieve greatness. She wants them to understand that achievement is possible for everyone, rather than being reserved for a select few.

Through her speaking, Maya seeks to motivate and inspire people in real time, helping them recognise the potential that already exists within them.

Determining Positive Psychology

Maya’s interest in what makes people flourish eventually led her towards positive psychology and coaching psychology. She describes this direction as another example of fate guiding her towards the right path.

She had originally planned to go to London for her PhD, but she was unable to leave Cairo at the time. Instead, she opted for a full-time online Master of Science in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology.

Something about the programme spoke to her. She had always been intrigued by what makes people tick, what makes them magnificent, what makes them great and the science behind all of it. The programme proved to be a natural fit, opening a new chapter in her academic journey.

Her interest in positive psychology also strengthened her commitment to helping people pursue ambition without losing sight of their wellbeing.

In Maya’s view, the relationship between achievement and wellbeing comes down to balance. People can accomplish great things, but they must take care to avoid losing themselves in the process. Rest, exercise, eating well and spending time with family and friends are essential parts of a fulfilling life.

She considers self-care an essential form of self-love, particularly when people are working towards demanding goals. Without adequate care for themselves, they may struggle to manage the ups and downs that accompany achievement.

Her message is that people should remain grounded, maintain their focus and make room for the things that sustain them. Those who overdo it can pay a heavy price, which is why she encourages a steady approach to success.

She compares the experience to climbing Everest and running out of breath just as the flag is being planted at the summit. The goal, in her view, is to reach the summit with enough strength left to appreciate the achievement. Slow and steady always wins the race.

Researching Entrepreneurs’ Motivation and Wellbeing

Maya’s doctoral research continues the work she began during her Master’s degree. Her Master’s thesis investigated the cross-cultural wellbeing of entrepreneurs based in the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

More specifically, she focused on self-determination theory, a macro-theory of motivation, as part of her MSc research.

For her PhD, she decided to continue investigating these important themes while broadening the scope to include psychological wellbeing as experienced by entrepreneurs based in the United States and the UAE.

Her ultimate goal is to devise a unique wellbeing framework for the contemporary entrepreneur.

This research connects closely with her interest in entrepreneurship and her belief that ambition and wellbeing deserve equal attention. By studying how entrepreneurs experience motivation and psychological wellbeing across different settings, she hopes to contribute to a clearer understanding of what helps them flourish.

Her academic work also provides a research-based foundation for the ideas she shares through her speaking and writing, allowing her to connect theory with practical ways people can approach their lives and work.

Turning Ideas into Books

Maya’s desire to help people extends from the stage and lecture hall to the written word. Through books such as Find Your Fortune and Fearless Motivation, she hopes to give readers something they can return to whenever they need guidance or a fresh perspective.

Her ultimate aim is to provide evidence-based, tried-and-tested methods that people can use to elevate their game, achieve their dreams and lead a fulfilling life.

For her, writing offers another way to reach people and share ideas that can make a meaningful difference. A keynote may inspire someone in the moment, while a book allows that person to revisit the message, reflect on it and apply it over time.

Her writing is therefore closely connected to her wider purpose of motivating and inspiring people. Whether through a book, a lecture, a keynote or a small interaction, she wants people to discover ways to move towards their aspirations and lead lives that feel meaningful.

Reward of Seeing Students Engage

Some of the most memorable responses to Maya’s work come from her students. She considers them a somewhat tough audience because they are typically younger than traditional conference audiences, and keeping them engaged requires considerable effort.

Yet the look on their faces, their excitement about the subject matter and their curiosity make her genuinely happy.

These moments remind her why teaching matters. Seeing students respond to an idea gives her a sense of fulfilment and reinforces her belief that communication can create a meaningful impact.

According to her, inspiration is not limited to large audiences or major speaking engagements. It can emerge through a conversation, a classroom discussion, a social media post or a book that reaches someone at the right time.

She believes that everything people do can create a ripple effect, making a tangible difference in ways they may never fully see.

Service at the Heart of Her Purpose

For Maya, fulfilment comes down to service and the difference she can make in another person’s life. Through her work, she hopes to help people believe in hope again, in love again, in life again and in the beauty of existence again. Whether through a social media post, a talk, a keynote or a book, her greatest satisfaction lies in reaching someone in a way that encourages them to see life differently and believe in their own potential.

This sense of purpose also determines how she views recognition. Named “Most Inspiring Thought Leader and Keynote Voice of 2026” by Global Publicist 24, she understands that visibility brings responsibility. She believes people with a platform, whether online or offline, must remain conscious of the influence they have on others.

Their words, deeds and actions matter because people often look to them for guidance and inspiration. For her, thought leadership means recognising that influence and using it with care, knowing that even a small interaction can leave a lasting impression.

Looking Towards the Future

Maya intends to continue travelling the world to deliver keynote speeches while spending more focused time on her writing and PhD.

These ambitions reflect the different strands of her professional life, which continue to support and strengthen one another. Her academic research deepens her understanding of motivation and wellbeing, while her writing, teaching and speaking allow her to share ideas with wider audiences.

She hopes to keep championing conversations that encourage people to pursue their potential, understand themselves better and build lives that bring them genuine fulfilment.

Her long-term vision is rooted in the legacy she wants to leave through teaching, writing, research and speaking. She wants every person who meets her or encounters her work online to believe that they, too, can achieve great things.

With enough passion, grit, faith and hard work, she believes people can work towards possibilities that may once have seemed out of reach.

A Message for Those Afraid to Begin

For young people who are afraid to pursue their potential because of fear, judgement or self-doubt, Maya offers a direct message: if they love something, they should do it, provided their actions cause no harm to themselves or others.

She encourages them to open their minds, stretch their imaginations and recognise the opportunities that may be waiting for them. The world, she believes, is their oyster.

Her advice is to keep the fire within bright and luminous and take that first step in faith.

This message brings together the ideas that have formed her journey from childhood through entrepreneurship, academia, writing and public speaking. Family gave her an example of hard work, entrepreneurship encouraged her to find her own direction, and psychology gave her a way to explore the forces that help people flourish.

Across these different paths, her purpose has remained consistent: to motivate and inspire others to recognise their potential and pursue their dreams.

For Maya, the greatest measure of success lies in helping people believe that their lives can hold more possibility than they may currently imagine, and giving them the encouragement to begin discovering it for themselves.
