Hollywood actor Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, are mourning the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe.
The family announced Fiona’s death on Tuesday, September 29, sharing a statement with PEOPLE in which they described themselves as “deeply heartbroken” by the loss of their daughter. Fiona was 13.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the family said in the statement, describing her as a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.
The family also spoke about Fiona’s place within the family, saying she was adored by her sisters and deeply loved by her parents. They described her as “the light of our lives” and said her death had devastated the entire family.
“Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time,” the statement said.
The family did not disclose Fiona’s cause of death. Their statement did, however, encourage people experiencing mental-health difficulties or emotional distress to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The reference to mental-health support does not establish a cause of death.

Fiona was the second of Chad Lowe and Kim Painter’s three daughters. The couple also have Mabel Painter, 17, and Nixie Barbara, 10. Chad and Kim welcomed Fiona on November 16, 2012.
Chad Lowe, 58, is known for his work in television and film, including Life Goes On, 24 and Pretty Little Liars. He is also the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe. More recently, Chad appeared in 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Fiona occasionally appeared in family photographs shared publicly by her parents. In 2025, Chad marked her transition into her teenage years with an Instagram post celebrating her 13th birthday and encouraging her to “keep dancing through life.”

The family is now asking for privacy as they grieve Fiona’s death.
